Christian Family Counseling Programs
QUESTION: Christian family counseling programs - How can they help?ANSWER:Can Christian family counseling programs help? The answer is yes. However, I need to clarify. There are counseling programs in our country that call themselves "Christian" that have tacked on the word but do not adhere to the true meaning of Christianity. Christianity is not a religion, nor is it merely a religious identification. A Christian is someone who has
a personal relationship with God. A Christian family counselor is one who uses the Word of God as the basis for their counseling rather than the worldview that seeks to give excuses, rationalizations, and labels to a problem that is based on man being separated from God.
Most counseling today is built upon a godless model created by Freud and or Jung. Both of these men were anti-God and anti-Christian; they created a counterfeit solution to the sin problem plaguing mankind. Their ideas have permeated the pseudo science of psychology. Jesus said, "Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean'. . .He went on: "For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean'" (Mark 7:15, 21-23).
This refutes the idea that man is a product of his environment, his parentage, or his education, etc. It refutes the idea that people do not have a choice or they are not responsible for the evil they do. God does not accept the excuse "I couldn't help it." We all must take responsibility for the choices we make. The need is not to build self-esteem, the need is to humble one's self to obey God's Word. The problems affecting the family have the same basis: they spring from the source of the heart of man that does not choose to operate on God's viewpoint (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 64:6).
Therefore, in order to find help that will solve the sin problems, the root of the interpersonal problems in any relationship, a family needs to find genuine Christian family counseling programs. Biblically-based counseling should seek to solve the individual relationships between the family members through the only source for true healing, God.
