Post Abortion Syndrome Depression
QUESTION: Post abortion syndrome depression - Can I be forgiven?ANSWER:Are you struggling with post abortion syndrome depression? Do you feel like you will never be the same? It is often very difficult to forgive ourselves for something we have done to ourselves.
Consider this personal story of one young woman:
For a long time I thought that God would never forgive me for the three abortion I had. I didn't really know who God was, but I remember crying and asking God to forgive me. For some reason, I felt in my heart that abortion was wrong. I experienced many emotional issues and even contemplated suicide. I was alone in my lonely world and didn't know if God could forgive me, let alone love me. I came to a point where I realized I was a sinner and had displeased God. Then I learned that God had sent Jesus to earth to die for my sins. God already knew what I had done and He wanted to forgive me. He wanted me to have hope to continue my life. God forgave me that day!"
You may feel that you have to do something to make up for your abortion in order to earn or receive forgiveness. All you need to do is talk to God and ask His forgiveness. The Bible says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
It is understandable to have depression after an abortion, have mourning, and wonder if you can be forgiven. God's Word says plainly that if we confess our sins, He forgives us. This takes faith, believing and trusting what God says, in spite of what we are feeling.
God's forgiveness is amazing and confounds the mind that all we need to do is to ask to be forgiven, and we are. We do not have to torment ourselves through any vices or addictions. God forgives and He loves us. Peter writes about this, 1 Peter 4:8 states "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." Christ died for us and our sins, because of love.
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." By God's love, His Son's death and resurrection - we can be and are forgiven for our sins.
Rest assured, God has forgiven you if you have asked Him for forgiveness. 1 John 5:14-15 says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him." Celebrate, and praise God, if you have asked he has forgiven, no questions or qualms, or wondering. You are forgiven!
